If any of these is true,

FROM THE FIELD: PCHEs in service aboard an FPSO
  • Duty has fallen or pressure drop has risen and there is no way to check why.
  • We are evaluating bids on a technology we do not specify every day.
  • The unit is trusted because it has always run — not because anyone has checked what is happening inside.
  • Once the block is diffusion-welded, that bond can never be inspected again.
  • A replacement has been requested at a lead time that will not fit the outage — and a PCHE is not a stock item.
  • The design margin looks optimistic and no neutral party has reviewed it.
  • The same failure has appeared on a second asset and the explanation has not changed.
Describe the situation
Why a PCHE is different

The performance you are being asked to judge is sealed inside the unit.

Conventional inspection stops at the casing — no bundle to withdraw, no surface to inspect, no way in. What happens inside determines whether the unit is still fit to run, and that requires an evidence-led assessment view, not an assumption.

FROM MEASUREMENT TO DESIGN: Measured performance interpreted against the channel geometry and heat-exchanger design that produced it.
Measured, not assumed

Why measurement replaces assumption.

Where the scope requires it, we develop reference thermal-hydraulic datasets from instrumented testing carried out by specialist test partners, providing measured evidence to understand performance, validate assumptions and support evidence-based design assessment. Dolumï's government-registered corporate research department, recognised through KOITA, supports the research and engineering behind this work.

The direction of travel points the same way. Policy in Europe and beyond is moving in one direction: toward durability, repairability and evidence over automatic replacement. The EU's ecodesign rules already reach beyond consumer goods into industrial equipment, and the 2030 ambition is for repairability and evidence-based decisions to be the baseline for how products are designed, supported and kept in service — not an afterthought. Extending the working life of a well-engineered PCHE, on an independent and defensible basis, is not a compromise against that direction. It is what the direction asks for.

Seven services,
one connectedview.

RootCause

Find the real cause of underperformance

Independent investigation of leaks, excessive pressure drop, lost duty and recurring reliability problems — using forensic, metallurgical and operating evidence to establish what the evidence actually supports.

ReWork

Independent engineering for repairs and modifications

Fabrication-ready engineering for repairs, modifications and re-rating outside the sealed core: headers, supports, connections, service-point retrofits and loading or envelope changes. Dolumï designs the repair or upgrade; a qualified fabricator of the client's choosing builds it.

LifeGuard

Protect integrity throughout operating life

Risk-based inspection, degradation assessment and remaining-life evaluation, developed specifically for equipment that conventional inspection cannot reach — so the decision to keep running has a defensible basis behind it.

ExpertView

Independent expertise when interests diverge

Independent second opinions and owner's engineer support when a technical position is contested — giving the case an author whose independence can withstand examination.

TrueWeld

Confidence in the diffusion-welded bond you cannot inspect

Independent oversight of diffusion-weld quality — inspection planning, manufacturing surveillance and factory acceptance testing, through to sign-off.

ClearView

Independent verification before you buy or accept

Independent thermal, hydraulic and mechanical verification of the proposed design against the actual duty, the applicable codes and the required operating envelope — before acceptance.

RightFit

Confirm that the technology fits the application

Independent technology selection, fit-for-duty and specification support to establish whether a PCHE is the right choice — and the optimal configuration — then define exactly what should be purchased.

The practice

Three decades inside
this technology.

Dolumï was founded by Mark Kirby and Darly Yu, who between them bring three decades of work inside printed circuit and compact heat exchanger technology — from the earliest business case and application concept through process integration, design, manufacture, operation and failure investigation. Their experience extends beyond the hardware itself to the applications, process configurations and engineering methods that make the technology work in practice. It sets the technical standard the practice holds to and stands behind every engagement. Work is delivered by the founders and a network of vetted associate specialists, matched to the demands of each engagement.

The meaning behind Dolumï

Rooted in Korea.
Built on trust.

Dolumï takes its name from Durumi (두루미), the Korean name for the red-crowned crane. The crane has a long place in Korean culture as a symbol of longevity and continuity, and appears frequently in traditional Korean art, including Sipjangsaengdo, the “Ten Symbols of Longevity.”

These works bring together enduring elements of nature in idealised landscapes that express long life, well-being and continuity. The crane is one of the most recognisable figures within this tradition.

Our international name, Dolumï, is derived from this Korean origin. We carry forward the idea of enduring relationships rather than adopting the symbolism literally. Our monogram represents two people, the client and Dolumï, meeting in a handshake. It reflects partnership, trust and working together to make better decisions throughout your projects.
